An overview of ORIHCHI Agro-Industrial Cooperative Community Settlement
The project is especially designed for the characteristics of the region and is based on Israeli experience of rural settlement. In this settlement, there are several components but the main component is the Agricultural Support Training Center (ASTC) - with a demonstration farm and a commercial farm. In this ASTC, our experts from Israel will train the local farmers through lectures and workshops and how to work, not just by word of mouth, but by practical work in the field. All the infrastructure, modern technology, and technical assistance will be provided for all the persons/families involved in the project for a very efficient agro-industrial business.
Other features include:
- Agricultural processing plants
- Dairy industry
- Slaughter house
- Factory of oil, flour and more
- Center for packaging and marketing of agricultural produce
- Center for sorting and packing eggs
- Logistic center
- Center of agricultural machinery and tools
- Warehouse for agricultural machinery and technical equipment
- Center for animal feed
- Gas station and garage
- Packing house
- Commercial Center
- Grocery store
- Community Center
- Sport Center
- Community Offices
- Center of communication (Internet)
Another important component of this project is the Vocational Training Center for youngsters who want to have a profession and don’t want to work in the farm. They will receive training in a very short time in vocations that are needed in the area. Let’s say that in the area, we have a big need for plumbers, carpenters, hairdressers, our experts from Israel will train these people in a very short time, mainly in practical work (the Israeli way). It would be 70 percent practical work and 30 percent theory. And after that they can try to get a job or open their own businesses.
Another unit is the Health Unit which would give basic health services and also mother and child care services.
A very important component of this project is the Community Center. Why? Because the center unites all the other components together.
All these components serve as a catalyst for empowering the communities in the whole region. It will serve thousands of people. It will create jobs and income opportunities and significant improvement in the quality of life.
In the community center, there will be special programmes that have to do with cooperative. The people in the community will learn about corporative practice and how to live in the Kibbutz (an independent productive community), how to run a corporative, and how to manage a corporative. In this community centre, people of all ages can come and spend their free time in the evening and can have music classes, theatre classes, and cultural events can be held in the centre. Part of the reason is to preserve the Igbo culture.
In the settlements, we will have schools, worship centres, housing, electricity and all that would help the people have a full life.
